Following the sell out success in 2009 we are pleased to confirm that ‘The Fellsman’ will return in 2010 running every Wednesday in high summer over Britain’s most spectacular railway - the legendary ‘Settle to Carlisle’ line – with it’s great limestone peaks and deep valleys we travel over the roof of England including the great 24 arched viaduct at Ribblehead on this masterpiece of Victorian engineering, with time available for sightseeing in either Appleby or Carlisle. WATCH ‘THE FELLSMAN’ ON BBC TV IN THE NEW SERIES OF “GREAT BRITISH RAILWAY JOURNEYS”The Settle & Carlisle line is known for its magnificent scenery and steep gradient so our engine will be working hard as we climb to the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct with stunning views of the three peaks before entering Blea Moor tunnel. Passengers will get a marvellous view as the train emerges into Dent Dale. As we approach Garsdale you will see sweeping views of Wensleydale with our engine in full flight as we climb at 1 in 100 towards the summit of the line at Ais Gill. Travelling on through the Eden Valley to the pretty Westmorland market town of Appleby there is an opportunity of leaving the train here for a four hour break; alternatively continue to the border city of Carlisle where we have a stop of around two hours. You may choose to stroll between the castle and cathedral or perhaps visit the famous Tullie House Museum – all surrounded by great places to shop, eat or be entertained so creating the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Our train will be ready for the return from Carlisle mid afternoon and following a photographic and water stop at Appleby we travel over the same spectacular route giving another opportunity to experience the beauty of the high Pennines.

We have 3 different classes of travel available on board our train, but whichever you choose remember to book early in order to avoid disappointment:
