On arrival at historic Durham, which has been voted as ‘the best city in the UK’ around four hours will be available at leisure to enjoy the many delights with its cobbled streets, Norman Cathedral & dramatic Castle that were founded in 1072 and today are a World Heritage Site as they stand high above the River Wear where relaxing cruises and riverside walks are available – The city is alive with boutiques, galleries, museums and shops selling local food.

Alternatively, enjoy an exclusive visit to the award-winning Beamish Museum which should be booked at the same time as the main tour as space is limited:
Beamish Open-Air Museum
Leaving the train at Durham road coaches will transport you on the short journey to the award winning 300-acre Beamish Museum for a totally unique day out. It’s a vast, living, working experience of life as it was in the North East of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s where the past comes to life with costumed guides and the opportunity to travel by Tram or omnibus to the Town, Colliery Village, Home Farm, Pockerley Manor and a 1825 Railway complete with the Puffing Billy locomotive. Perhaps enjoy a pint in the restored Sun Inn or sample traditional fish n’ chips cooked on an Edwardian coal fired range.
