We present a scenic tour to the spectacular North East with its landscape of iconic landmarks and beautiful dramatic coastline as we travel through the Vale of York with views of the Yorkshire Moors and then through Newcastle crossing the famous bridges and along the sweeping Northumberland coastal route. This tour offers a choice of leisure time in either picturesque Alnmouth or the historic border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, with an optional off train tour to the magnificent Alnwick Castle.

Our first destination is the picturesque fishing village of Alnmouth which is situated on a sheltered estuary and was founded in 1150 to become established as a shipbuilding centre. Today Alnmouth remains a beautiful and interesting village worthy of exploration with panoramic views and a variety of restaurants, pubs and coffee shops for the discerning visitor, but please be aware that the village is a walk of one mile from the station.

Perhaps remain on the train and continue to the dramatic walled town Berwick-upon-Tweed with its huge Elizabethan fortress overlooking the river built to keep out the invading Scots. There is a wide estuary with views to Lindisfarne and this beautiful unspoiled town is truly worthy of exploration with a walk around the battlements or visit the historic quay.

We have available an optional off train tour which should be booked at the same time as the main tour as space is limited:

Alnwick Castle & Gardens:
At Alnmouth road coaches will transport you on the short journey to the foreboding Alnwick Castle that has been the seat of the Dukes of Northumberland since 1309. Admission includes both the castle and its wonderful gardens – fascinating museums, a restaurant and the stunning state rooms containing fine furniture and paintings. More recently the castle has found fame as the location of ‘Hogwarts School’ in the Harry Potter movies and ‘Downton Abbey’.
Supplement:  £30 per person
