We are pleased to present a relaxing long weekend break to Cornwall the land of myths and legends on board “The Statesman” land cruise train. With its rugged coastlines and quaint fishing villages you will savour some of the most unspoilt countryside in Britain basking in milder temperatures warmed by the Gulf Stream spring arrives early and flourishes – Accommodation for two nights will be in quality 3- or 4-star hotels in the pretty fishing town of St Ives.
Our train travels through beautiful Somerset before passing historic Exeter with spectacular views across the River Exe as we follow the coastline and dash through cuttings of red rock and around the sea wall at Dawlish prior to climbing the Devon banks with views of Dartmoor, then into Cornwall over Brunel’s famous Royal Albert Bridge, continuing through the county town of Truro and around Mounts Bay to the most westerly station in England at the seafaring town of Penzance for an arrival around 18.00 with road coach connections to the hotels.
Following breakfast the day is yours at leisure to relax and enjoy the resort, or, select one of the following optional excursions which should be booked at the same time as the main tour as seating is limited:
A full day tour as we sail from Penzance on ‘Scillonian III’ to the beautiful and unspoilt Isles of Scilly – with its exotic plants, ancient cairns, crumbling castles, sparkling white sands and an azure sea. Upon arrival in St Marys there will be around 4 hours for exploration at your leisure or perhaps take a small launch (payable locally) for the 20-minute crossing to beautiful Tresco with its famous sub-tropical Abbey gardens.
A road coach tour to two of the most spectacular garden experiences – Trebah is a sub-tropical paradise with a stunning coastal backdrop a result of 175 years of creation and in the spring, it comes alive with a colourful array of rhododendrons, magnolias and camellias. We continue by coach to the amazing Trelissick Estate with glorious gardens and summerhouses enjoying panoramic views over the Fal estuary.
A circular tour by road coach through beautiful Marazion with views of St Michaels Mount to Land’s End one of Britain’s best loved landmarks, famous for its dramatic location and stunning scenery with the unique signpost, cafes, and cliff top paths to explore. We return through Sennen Cove with its expansive golden beach and tiny harbour, then along the cliff top road with spectacular coastal views passing the unspoilt hamlet of Zennor with an arrival back at your hotel mid-afternoon.
Sunday: We depart from Penzance late morning, and the return journey retraces the route through Cornwall and around the beautiful Devon Riviera Coast but with the addition of travel through the Severn tunnel and the scenic Welsh Marches route to Hereford and Worcester.
Accommodation is in either the ‘Tregenna Castle Hotel’ – standing within its own magnificent estate overlooking the historic fishing port of St Ives, or ‘Carbis Bay Hotel’ – a luxurious coastal retreat with views across to Godrevy lighthouse with its own private beach, in twin or double rooms only. Breakfast (Sat & Sun) and dinner (Fri & Sat) is included, with other meals taken on the train. Seating on our train is in Pullman style carriages and included in the meal service on board is bucks fizz with breakfast, a glass of chilled champagne and half bottle of house wine served with luncheon.
Accommodation is in non-sea view rooms at the ‘Tregenna Castle Hotel’ with Breakfast (Sat & Sun) and dinner (Fri & Sat) included. Complimentary tea/coffee, biscuits and light refreshments will be served during the journey and a Buffet Bar is available for the sale of hot & cold beverages, light refreshments and alcoholic drinks.
We have a limited number of sea view rooms available for Pullman guests only in both hotels and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Road coach transfers are included between the train and hotels.
On Train Meals: (Pullman only)

Sunday: Seven course Luncheon including the Great British cheeseboard
Guests joining the train at Birmingham New Street should note they will be served tea/coffee & pastries instead of breakfast on the outward journey.

A limited number of single rooms are available in the Tregenna Castle Hotel only – supplement £90 per person. (There is no single room availability in the Carbis Bay Hotel)
Guaranteed window tables for 2 are available at a supplement of £60 per person.
Bookings for this train are accepted with a non-refundable deposit of £100 per person and a written confirmation will be sent. We will then write to you 60 days prior to the date of travel concerning the balance payment, which is due in full no later than 40 days prior to the tour.
