Friday: Our train travels north with views of either the Lakeland mountains or Northumberland coast before we continue over the border towards Glasgow taking the route around the north of the city and along the banks of the Clyde. At Craigendoran we join the West Highland line and climb high into the mountains passing Loch Long and Loch Lomond followed by an exhilarating journey over the unspoilt expanse of Rannoch Moor with arrival in Fort William around 20.30.

Loch Shiel and was the site where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745, and more recently was the location used in the Harry Potter moviesSaturday: At Fort William station step back in time with the vintage standard class carriages of the steam hauled ‘Jacobite’ train waiting to take us on the magnificent 84 mile round trip on the ‘Rails to the Isles’. Passing the foot of Ben Nevis and along the shoreline of Loch Eil we climb into the high mountains and at Glenfinnan cross the viaduct which offers magnificent views down Loch Shiel. Passing the white sands of Morar with the mystical Isle of Skye in the distance we arrive into Mallaig - with numerous eateries offering the famous local fish n’ chips there is plenty to see and do in the couple of hours before the return journey.

Sunday: We depart from Fort William around 09.00 for the journey up the Great Glen and Monessie Gorge. Time permitting a stop will be made at Rannoch where the views are truly spectacular and herds of wild deer roam - then homeward with one magnificent sight following another including Loch Tulla, the Horseshoe Curve and Loch Long.

Pullman ClassLuggage: Please be aware that passengers are responsible for the conveyance of their own luggage between the train, transfer coaches and hotels and as such it is advisable not to ‘overload’ one and to ensure cases are easily manageable. These should be stored between the seats or on luggage racks.

Insurance: We strongly advise that you purchase travel insurance when booking any UK holiday for your own protection and peace of mind. We are regrettably unable to arrange this for you.

Mobility: Due to the age and construction of our train it is not possible to board in a wheelchair and some of the platforms on this tour are much shorter than our train which may necessitate walking through a number of carriages when boarding or alighting, in addition the platforms at some remote stations in Scotland are rather low or accessible only by a footbridge. These points should be borne in mind for guests who may have mobility issues.
