We present a scenic tour to the spectacular North East with its landscape of iconic landmarks and beautiful dramatic coastline as we travel through the Vale of York with views of the Yorkshire Moors and then along the sweeping Northumberland coastal route. This tour offers a choice of leisure time in either historic Durham, picturesque Alnmouth or the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, with optional off train tours to the award winning Beamish Open Air Museum, or, magnificent Alnwick Castle. Our first destination is Durham where around five hours will be available at leisure to enjoy the delights of this historic city with its cobbled streets, Norman Cathedral & Castle that were founded in 1072 and today are a World Heritage Site as they stand high above the River Wear where relaxing cruises are available.

Alternatively, remain on board for the journey along the dramatic coastline to the picturesque fishing village of Alnmouth which is situated on a sheltered estuary and was founded in 1150 to become established as a shipbuilding centre. Today Alnmouth remains a beautiful and interesting village worthy of exploration with panoramic views and a variety of restaurants, pubs and coffee shops for the discerning visitor, but please be aware that the village is a walk of one mile from the station.

Perhaps continue on our train to the dramatic walled town Berwick-upon-Tweed with its huge Elizabethan fortress overlooking the river built to keep out the invading Scots. There is a wide estuary with views to Lindisfarne and this beautiful unspoiled town is truly worthy of exploration with a walk around the battlements or visit the historic quay.

We have available a choice of two optional off train tours which should be booked at the same time as the main tour as space is limited:

Beamish Open Air Museum Road coaches will transport you on the short journey to the award winning 300 acre Beamish Museum for a totally unique day out. It’s a vast, living, working experience of life as it was in the North East of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s where the past comes to life with costumed guides and the opportunity to travel by Tram or omnibus to the Town, Colliery Village, Home Farm, Pockerley Manor and the 1825 Railway complete with the Puffing Billy locomotive.Beamish Open Air Museum
