This is a train with a real ‘wow’ factor offering a circular steam tour of over 200 miles hauled by Southern Railway ‘Battle of Britain’ Pacific 34067 ‘Tangmere’ - complete with the Golden Arrow regalia she used to adorn whilst hauling the famous continental boat train. Features include the journey through the picturesque Garden of England and around the beautiful Kent coast with the beautiful white cliffs towering above the train – the highlight of the day being an afternoon break for sightseeing in historic Canterbury.
Our outward journey is diesel hauled to West London where ‘Tangmere’ joins the train. We continue into open countryside and through the pretty Garden of England which is rich with Oast Houses and Hop Fields. After passing Ashford we soon arrive at historic Canterbury for an afternoon break in this city of narrow streets and ancient buildings, the incomparable cathedral, setting for so many dramatic events stands at its heart.
Travelling through the beautiful Kent countryside the engine works hard to haul the train over the stiff gradients along the coastal line through Dover and Folkestone with the dramatic white cliffs and spectacular views across the English Channel. After a brief stop to replenish water in the engines tender we continue over the high speed route through Tonbridge recreating the former ‘Golden Arrow’ from the glory days of rail travel before bidding farewell to ‘Tangmere’ and returning homeward behind a more modern form of traction.

A full English breakfast and a four course dinner will be prepared on board by our chefs and silver served at your reserved seat by liveried stewards. A full wine & drinks list is available with an ‘at seat’ service during the meals. Further refreshments during the journey may be purchased from the buffet bar.

Pullman Dining
This is the ultimate travel experience – seating is in our refurbished Pullman style umber & cream wood panelled open carriages offering additional legroom, wide seats and panoramic windows with seating arranged in groups of 4 or 2 around a table laid with crisp linen and fully dressed with the finest crockery and glassware. The ticket price includes a glass of chilled bucks fizz followed by a full English breakfast and late morning tea/coffee service with pastries prior to the arrival at our destination. On the return journey you will be welcomed back on board with a glass of chilled champagne and a selection of tempting canapés will be served followed by a four course dinner with ¼ bottle of house wine, and coffee with petits fours. An ‘at seat’ drinks service is available for purchase throughout the day.
