We are pleased to present one of our most popular tours as “The Statesman” train travels to the very heart of Scotland’s capital and Britain’s most beautiful city where shopping is always a unique experience but at Christmas - it’s truly magical, when the gardens beneath Edinburgh Castle are transformed into a Winter Wonderland with traditional Christmas markets, open air skating and thousands of twinkling festive lights.

Following departure from your local station ‘The Statesman’ whisks us north on a spectacular journey over the border and through the beautiful Scottish lowlands for an arrival into Edinburgh Waverley station around 13.00 and an afternoon break of up to 4 hours. The station is located just below one of the UK’s most historic and popular shopping areas – Princes Street, with its beautifully lit trees and international stores on one side and a traditional German & Scottish Highland Christmas Market on the other.

There is something for everyone in this truly enchanting city with numerous attractions all within easy walking distance – from the giant Christmas wheel that lights up the sky high above the festive gardens, a stroll down the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, or the impressive fortress of Edinburgh Castle. Scotland’s capital has everything and what makes it even better at this time of year is the magical combination of festive lights, Christmas events and the unique yuletide atmosphere.

To make your day complete we have 4 different classes of travel available on board our train, but whichever you choose remember to book early in order to avoid disappointment:

Standard Class
Reserved seating is arranged in groups of 4 around a table with bookings for 2 seated side by side in open carriages - a buffet bar is available throughout most of the journey for the purchase of hot & cold beverages, snacks and alcoholic drinks. It is in order to bring on board your own hamper and picnics for consumption on or off the train should you so desire.

First Class
Reserved seating is arranged in groups of 4 or 2 around a table in open carriages with additional legroom, wide seats and panoramic windows. A buffet bar is available throughout most of the journey for the purchase of hot & cold beverages, snacks and alcoholic drinks. It is in order to bring on board your own hamper and picnics for consumption on or off the train should you so desire.

Premier Dining
Reserved seating is arranged in groups of 4 or 2 around a table in 1st class open carriages with additional legroom, wide seats and panoramic windows. A full English breakfast and a four course traditional Christmas dinner will be prepared on board by our chefs and silver served at your reserved seat by liveried stewards. A full wine & drinks list is available with an ‘at seat’ service during the meals. Further refreshments during the journey may be purchased from the buffet bar.

Pullman Dining
This is the ultimate travel experience – seating is in our refurbished Pullman style umber & cream air conditioned wood panelled open carriages ‘Apollo’ & ‘Sovereign’ offering additional legroom, wide seats and panoramic windows with seating arranged in groups of 4 or 2 around a table laid with crisp linen and fully dressed with the finest crockery and glassware. The ticket price includes a reserved seat, glass of chilled bucks fizz followed by a full English breakfast and late morning tea/coffee service with shortbread prior to the arrival at our destination. On the return journey you will be welcomed back on board with a glass of chilled champagne and a selection of tempting canapés will be served followed by a four course traditional Christmas dinner with ¼ bottle of house wine, and coffee with petits fours. An ‘at seat’ drinks service is available for purchase throughout the day.
